After reflecting on HR2017, I must say it was another dynamic and successful conference this year. In addition to enjoying the warm Orlando sunshine, we learned a lot thanks to the more than 60 sessions, dozens of case studies and numerous exhibits. After speaking to customers and hearing about their experiences, as well as seeing the various roadmaps presented by SuccessFactors, we left Orlando with countless new pieces of knowledge. But if I had to hone in on just a few key takeaways, here are four for you.

  1. Many customers are deciding what to do with payroll. SAP offers several different choices as far as payroll is concerned, and customers are still looking for advice as they transition to the cloud. Should they go to Employee Central Payroll or stay On-Premise and integrate? Or should they give Managed Payroll a try? With many organizations having multiple, different payroll interfaces, the question then centers on how to integrate them all to Employee Central. The decision must be made based on numerous factors, including how complex and customized one’s On-Premise system currently is.
  1. SAP Fiori could provide the best of both worlds before moving to the cloud. If you think moving to the cloud is the only option, think again. Several customers are looking at SAP Fiori. Many applications are rolling out continuously through SAP Fiori. From existing apps, to personal information, to benefits and recruiting, plans are being made to revamp and create new apps. Advantages include that you get a similar design to SuccessFactors and that these web applications can work on different devices with a flexible UI. There was a lot of buzz as attendees brainstormed together how they can utilize SAP Fiori as another step that can be taken before moving fully to the cloud.
  1. We want to move to the Cloud. Where do we start? Many users want to move to the cloud, but they don’t know where to begin. Should we start with Employee Central or Talent? If Talent, then should we start with Performance Management or LMS? How about Recruiting and Onboarding? Customers have different options for where to start. The first decision is whether they want to replace their Core HR or keep it. Once that question has been decided, they can choose from Talent Hybrid, Side by Side, Core Hybrid or Full Cloud. Although this is a good starting point, it’s worth noting that rarely does a customer simply fall into one of these four categories.
  1. Innovative features and technology in Talent Management are coming our way. SuccessFactors prides itself as the industry leader in Talent Management, and it looks like it’s here to stay. New features in Mobile, Recruiting, Workforce Analytics, and different ways to integrate with Employee Central are just around the corner. Look out for the quarterly releases this year, especially on the latter side. SuccessFactors is taking it up a notch!

It was great to see our Whitaker-Taylor clients and the many customers looking to learn and optimize their HR technology. For those of you who were unable to make it to HR2017, make plans now to attend SuccessConnect, August 29-31. Be sure to let us know you will be there so we can connect!
