Managing Concurrent Employment in SuccessFactors Employee Central

shutterstock_296302733.jpgMany employees serve more than one function, and a secondary role often creates a need to track costing, time and attendance, development activities, and other activities.

An example might be where a Chief Learning Officer assumes the role of Culture Management Officer during a merger. Finance needs to charge the culture management activities to merger expenses. Other secondary roles may be more permanent. As we used to say in the Navy, some people wear many hats, and formally play different roles in an organization.

Tracking secondary roles can also be important when you stretch assignments and temporary developmental roles for individuals in leadership programs. Since information about the role populates the employee profile, details of the assignment are available for succession planning and development.

Employee Central makes it possible to track multiple roles and their effective dates. Reporting capabilities make it easy to isolate and report on secondary roles.

How To Define A Concurrent Assignment

After your administrator has configured concurrent employment and made it available, you can:

  • Navigate to the employee’s profile,
  • select Update Employee Records, then choose
  • Add Employment Details.

The Add Employment Details form will open where you can enter information for the assignment.

Employee Central allows users to toggle between assignments, making it easy to see and review information about each position. Note that the architecture maintains one Person ID for the employee and one user account, but a separate Employment ID for each assignment.

If you go to the employee’s profile and don’t see an assignment, your “As Of” date may not be within the effective date range of the assignment. Change the date to view it.

You can also view the history in the portlet, all information that has changed for that portlet, and when it was changed.

When you use the search bar to find an employee, you will see all assignments and can choose the one you need to see.

Maintaining an Employment ID for each role enables you to track time off and financial management for each assignment separately. Having a single Person ID allow you to roll up data for all assignment.?
