The benefits of CalibrationIn most talent-driven organizations, performance is the single most decisive factor to determine an employee’s success. Consequently, it is both important and challenging for organizations to provide fair and accurate ratings. Performance ratings don’t just determine salary; they also affect employee retention and motivation. SuccessFactors’ Calibration tool provides the functionality to empower and facilitate managers and executives to ensure that ratings are objectively applied and distributed.

SuccessFactors’ Calibration gives managers and HR leaders a unified forum to discuss and rate various factors ranging from employees’ succession elements like risk of loss and impact of loss, to compensation and performance ratings. With Calibration as a vehicle for this type of unbiased discussion and distribution, they are better equipped to determine important factors like promotions, increments and other key career and business decisions.

Calibration provides a dashboard and multiple views that list rating distributions, as well as the guidelines for rating employees. Here is what it looks like on your screen.

The benefits of calibration

As you can see in the picture, you have the flexibility to see employees’ ratings in list, talent grid and performance views. These various views give managers an easy way to navigate through their current trend elements and ratings. Users can also “drag and drop” employees under various categories to determine final performance or trend ratings that are unbiased and fair.

Below are some of the elements in each view that managers and the participants in the calibration session can see before adjusting an employee’s ratings.

1. List View

This view enables executives to compare various ratings for team members and change them as required.

3. 9-Box Talent Grid View

This view allows managers to distribute the employees based on the succession elements such as risk of loss and impact of loss. Managers and executives can also compare employees to see their talent cards (a talent management snapshot highlighting key metrics of the employee) and change the ratings if necessary.

The benefits of calibration

Today almost every organization goes through some type of performance review process for all employees. SuccessFactors Calibration is a value-added tool that benefits the process by streamlining the ratings. Additionally, it offers a unique opportunity for HR business partners and executives facilitating and participating in the calibration to add value to the business and drive it to its full potential.
